Shohei Ohtani Rookie Cards Checklist and Gallery

Prospect love is nothing new, but the massive interest in Shohei Ohtani rookie cards is indicative of the potential many see in the Japanese star. Dubbed "the Babe Ruth of Japan," the two-way 2018 MLB rookie can pitch and hit at a high level. As a result, collecting demand has surged for the Los Angeles Angels' star signing, even with his injury troubles.

Shohei Ohtani Japanese Baseball Cards

Because his pro career began in the Japanese leagues with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, the earliest Shohei Ohtani cards can be somewhat elusive. Starting in 2013, options include popular brands from Japan, most notably BBM and Calbee. While there are quite a few choices, and even some autographs, most of the cards are pretty basic and not in huge supply. However, the rarest cards command huge sums when they surface.

See our real-time list of the most-watched Shohei Ohtani cards.

As the likelihood of his move to an MLB team increased, more mainstream options began to trickle out. First came his 2017 Bowman Mega Box Chrome card. His earliest MLB card debuted through the Topps Now program near the end of 2017, setting records along the way.

If you are looking for more than Shohei Ohtani cards, Topps Authentics is the exclusive place to find autographed gear for Ohtani, including signed baseballs and jerseys.

2018 Shohei Ohtani Rookie Cards

All that leads us to 2018 baseball sets, which feature many Shohei Ohtani rookie cards. 2018 Donruss Baseball, in particular, is an early option with multiple signed cards for Ohtani.

Although Panini offers MLBPA cards for Ohtani, only Topps has his MLB cards. In addition, Topps confirmed a long-term autograph and trading card deal that starts with 2018 Topps Baseball products. Up first is 2018 Topps Heritage, featuring both a short-printed base variation card and an autograph.

Topps revealed Ohtani rookie autographs in 2018 Bowman Baseball and 2018 Topps Chrome, as well.

  1. I’ve been collecting Shohei Ohtani 2013 Japan Rookie cards for 2+ years, and know most things about them.

I have like 60+ different RC on him, including the majority of the rarest cards.

I also have some 2011-2012 High School magazines when he was featured on the covers, or stories. All printed in Japanese of course.

The 2013 cards shown are common cards, but still, Americans know very little about them. I may be able to answer some questions.

He’s already a Legend in Japan, and the rarest items are held closely by Japanese collectors, and why few have the real rarities.

  2. Congrats on the Ohtani collection! The two BBM cards mentioned where more about exposing collectors to a few of the accessible Japanese rookies. Rarity was not part of the decision, nor was it referenced.

  3. I never would of believed I would witness an incredible baseball star, that double downs on all the past greats.
His baseball kung fu is strong.

  4. You missed the Topps Chrome #700 refractor which can be found only in certain retail complete sets.

  5. You got to add all of the BBM 2013 Rookie Cards to be honest because they are the hardest one to get or make a new article about it.

People got to understand that the most parallel to Bowman or Bowman Chrome of other player to Ohtani is BBM 2013 Rookie Edition Premium

I would definitely help if you want to make an article about it. Since Shohei is really a different player than anyone else in the league as of the moment especially in terms of the oversaturated market of modern baseball cards.

If one really wants to get the best, rarest, and so ever hard to get it graded memorabilia or best auto it should be the BBM 2013 brand.

I do have enough resources also for it if ever you are really interested in getting an article of his japanese rookie cards done.
